Susie Choi is a global artist from South Korea, celebrated for her innovative and versatile artistic expression that combines music, acting, and creative performance. Active as a violist, violinist, singer, actress, and performance artist, she is recognized for pushing the boundaries of art.
Susie began her musical journey with the violin at the age of three and later graduated from Yewon School (majoring in violin) and Seoul Arts High School (majoring in viola). She then earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree (each with First-Class Honours) from the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, UK. Her performances have graced iconic venues such as Royal Albert Hall, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and St. James’s Piccadilly in London, as well as Château Smith Haut Lafitte in France. In Korea, she has performed at prominent stages including the Seongnam Arts Center, Lian Hall, and the Seoul Arts Center. Notably, her 2021 recital, Variation, was a sold-out success, gaining global attention for its innovative online collaborations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, she was featured with her chamber group Flarpiola in BBC Music Magazine and highlighted by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Sinach (Billboard CCM award-winning singer), Maxim Vengerov, Yuri Zhislin, Philippe Tondre, and Nabil Shehata, showcasing her exceptional talent. Her partnerships with global media outlets like BBC, CBN, and Universal Music further emphasize her multidisciplinary approach and artistic excellence.
Her vocal artistry has been a core part of her journey. Beginning at the age of five, she quickly gained recognition, including winning the Grand Prize in KBS’s Who’s the Best. She later broadened her repertoire to include musical theater and contemporary music. In 2015, she became the youngest finalist in the 5th CCM Rookie Audition by CTS. Since then, she has continued to perform as a vocalist in both Korea and the UK, contributing to a wide range of concerts and projects.
As an actress and creator, Susie’s talents shine just as brightly. While studying at RCM, she pursued her passion for acting, earning a diploma in film acting from the Metropolitan Film School. Her creativity was showcased at the Berlin exhibition Sound of Contagion, where she presented Beauty, an AI-driven artistic work. She has also produced and performed in original works combining music, movement, and acting, such as What Do You See? and Artistory, which premiered in London. In Artistory, she explored themes of love within the arts through interviews with fellow artists and creatively addressed her personal journey of overcoming invisible injuries, drawing praise and empathy from audiences.
Dedicated to spreading positive messages through art, Susie actively collaborates with artists of diverse abilities, expanding the boundaries of creativity. Her work reflects her belief in the transformative power of art to heal and connect, creating meaningful experiences for all.
In October 2024, she earned her second master’s degree, an MA in Actor Musicianship (with First-Class Honours), from Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, becoming the first Korean graduate in this program and the first Korean to hold a master’s degree in Actor Musicianship. She continues to build a unique artistic career that integrates music, acting, dance, and storytelling, captivating international audiences.
Her expertise as a violist was further solidified when she was named Young Master at the 2024 Soundscape International Classical Festival in Denmark, where she performed as the principal violist. She plans to further establish herself in classical music with upcoming performances as both a violist and violinist. In early 2025, she will debut as Reza in the West End-licensed musical Once, to be staged at Coex Shinhan Artium in Seoul, offering Korean audiences a unique blend of music and acting as an accomplished actor-musician.
